Is the practice of free labour not illegal when it comes to internships? You are providing work for free in the hopes of being noticed, as an act of selfless dedication, but when everyone does the same, is it not meaningless? Why are interns so badly mistreated? Are brands not grateful for the work of the individual, instead seeing them as an exploitable free work force? Why is this now such an accepted part of culture that we are expected to work for free before even being considered for employment? 'pressurising the individual to the point of despair or death is regarded simply as ‘the way things are’' If this is the way things are, things need to change.
